Haryana bags award for cleanliness

The award was given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar who received it on behalf of the state, under Swachh Survekshan Grameen-2018 at a function organised by Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation at New Delhi on Tuesday.

Haryana has bagged the Number-1 State Award for its outstanding achievements in the field of sanitation and cleanliness under Swachh Survekshan Grameen-2018.

The award was given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar who received it on behalf of the state, under Swachh Survekshan Grameen-2018 at a function organised by Union Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation at New Delhi on Tuesday.

The top six districts of the country under the Swachh Sur vekshan Grameen-2018 included three districts of Haryana – Gurugram, Karnal and Rewari. Union Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation, Uma Bharti presented these district awards to three district s of Haryana.

After receiving the award, the CM congratulated the people of the state and said the Swachhta Abhiyan launched by Modi was given the form of a mas s movement in Haryana for which the state has got this award.

Under Swachh Bharat Mission, all rural areas of Haryana were made Open Defecation Free (ODF) by June 2017. Similarly, all cities of the state were made ODF by October 2017.

In the field of sanitation, several schemes are being implemented for solid and liquid waste management in urban and rural areas of Haryana. A target has been set to establish solid and liquid waste management units in all villages of Haryana by 2019.

Out of the total solid and liquid waste management units approved for 1,360 villages of Haryana, 631 solid waste management units and 414 liquid waste management units have been completed.

Under the Urban Solid Waste Management Scheme of Haryana, all Urban Local Bodies have been divided into 14 clusters.

In this direction, the work on Faridabad- Gurugram cluster and Sonipat-Panipat cluster has already begun. Special emphases are being laid on establishing Waste to Energy Plant in Haryana.
