The Gujarat unit of the BJP has dismissed Congress apprehensions about appointment of Parliamentary secretaries in an attempt to appease some disgruntled legislators of the ruling party.

Senior Congress leader Shaktisinh Gohil had on Saturday alerted state Governor O P Kohli that the ruling BJP is likely to appoint some Parliamentary secretaries to circumvent the law that prohibits the ministry size to go above 15 per cent of the total number of legislators in the Assembly.

State BJP president Jitubhai Vaghani has said his party knew about what to do within the legal framework and there was no need for Mr Gohil to write to the Governor on this issue.
Without clarifying whether the ruling BJP is planning to appoint Parliamentary secretaries or not, Mr Vaghani said the Gujarat government would follow appropriate legal and Constitutional provisions ruling such appointments.

Rejecting Mr Gohil’s allegations, Mr Vaghani said the BJP does not need any one’s advice about these appointments or any other issue. “It’s an attempt to seek cheap publicity”, added the state BJP chief. “It only reveals the frustration in the Congress”, he added.
