The Delhi Assembly on Friday unanimously passed a resolution against the ongoing sealing drive in the capital with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal blaming Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not responding to “crisis” the city is facing for past three months.

Kejriwal, while addressing the House, issue said he had written a letter to the Prime Minister seeking time to discuss the matter but he didn’t respond. “I wrote to PM Modi seeking time on sealing issue but he never responded. It is a two-minute job for him to solve this crisis,” Kejriwal claimed.

Seeking moratorium on the drive to provide a relief to the city’s traders, Kejriwal urged leader of opposition Vijendra Gupta to use his influence to fix the meeting with the Prime Minister so that a possible solution could be found to stop the sealing drive in the Capital.

Kejriwal last week wrote to the Prime Minister and Congress chief Rahul Gandhi, seeking time for a meeting to resolve the sealing issue.

In his nine-minute speech Kejriwal accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress for not taking corrective measures in their tenure to fix the ongoing sealing problem in the city.

“Who is responsible for the problems that traders are facing. Had they (BJP, Congress) taken the right steps when they were in power, today we were not dealing with this problem,” Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal said the BJP was hell bent in destroying the traders in the capital and ihad been widely speculated that the move was aimed to introduce the foreign direct investment (FDI) in the country. Kejriwal said after demonitisation, which was followed by introduction of goods and services tax (GST), the sealing of business establishments was proving to be the last nail in the coffin for traders.

Appealing to all political parties to rise above politics, the Chief Minister urged the Centre to bring an ordinance to end the sealing drive in the city.

“Changing the laws pertaining to the commercial and non-commercial areas will consume a lot of time. It can’t be done overnight. So if centre brings an ordinance and maintain the status-quo for two years, then we can easily make the necessary changes in the law without making traders to suffer,” he said.

Kejriwal also appealed the BJP to join him in his meeting with the Supreme Court appointed monitoring committee so that they can put forth a strong case before them.

The Chief Minister reiterated that if till 31 March, the centre will not resolve the sealing issue, then he along with the traders will will observe hunger strike to register their protest.

Later, the assembly passed a resolution demanding to stop the ongoing sealing drive in the city and also to de-seal already sealed shops.

The resolution moved by AAP MLA Saurabh Bharadwaj with the support of the BJP opposition leaders urged the central government to take all possible steps, including bring a new bill or amending existing laws in the ongoing budget session of Parliament to halt sealing with immediate effect.
