Gau Rashtra Yatra reaches Bhilwara, sparks conversations on cow-centric rural revival

Gau Rashtra Yatra in Bhilwara

The Gau Rashtra Yatra 2025 has reached Bhilwara with purpose, continuing its mission to reconnect India with its traditional knowledge systems, especially around the indigenous cow.

The Yatra, a nationwide movement aimed at rural empowerment and cultural revival, made its presence felt in this heartland district of Rajasthan, drawing farmers, activists, youth, and local communities into the fold.

The day began at 10 a.m. with visits to local cow support centres. Volunteers, gausevaks, and dignitaries came together to listen and learn from the caretakers on the frontlines of cow protection.

By noon, the Yatra had reached some of Bhilwara’s well-known gaushalas, centres that have become laboratories for reviving traditional practices with a modern twist. Visitors were shown live demonstrations of how cow-based products like Panchgavya (a combination of cow dung, urine, milk, ghee, and curd) are being used in farming, health remedies, and even small-scale industry.

From organic compost to Ayurvedic wellness, the gaushalas served as a reminder that age-old Indian wisdom, when fused with today’s innovations, can offer sustainable solutions for rural livelihoods.

At 2 pm, a press briefing gave the core team behind the Yatra a chance to articulate their broader vision. Representatives laid out the movement’s four key goals: conserving native cow breeds, supporting cow-based rural economies, promoting Panchgavya applications, and advocating for policy-level support.

Local media representatives asked pointed questions about implementation and impact, sparking discussions around the need for systemic change in India’s dairy and rural development sectors.

The event also saw active participation from dairy farmers, students, SHG members, and activists. Farmers spoke about their daily struggles, ranging from the rising cost of feed to limited market access and lack of technical support.

Addressing these issues, Venugopal Naidu Puvvada, Trustee and National Coordinator at Tech and Innovation at Rashtriya Gau Sevak Sangh (RGSS), highlighted how digital tools and innovation can uplift the dairy ecosystem.

“We need to integrate smart solutions; real-time data, improved logistics, and direct-to-consumer models to unlock the potential of this sector,” he said.

Later the focus shifted from dialogue to reflection. The Yatra paused for spiritual chanting and conversations with the local community.

Core team members like Narendra Kumar, Bharat Singh Rajpurohit, and Venugopal Naidu stayed engaged throughout, emphasizing that this was as much about listening as it was about leading.

The Gau Rashtra Yatra is a collective initiative brought to life by the collaboration of RGSS, Hindrise Social Welfare Foundation, Mati India, Khabar Kisan Ki, Dairy Agri Consultant, and Kamdhenu Gauveda.
