Tightening the noose on criminal gangs in the town here the police arrested notorious gangster Timan Kumbhar.
Police arrested Timan from a hideout at Patia in Bhubaneswar along with his three of his associates .
He has 20 criminal cases against his name and was recently sought by police in connection with a kidnapping case. The incident happened two weeks ago when Timan gang kidnapped two Patel brothers from Barapudugia bus stop and forced them to sign on paper to sold 11 acre of land present at Dhumamara outskirts of Bolangir town. The police had arrested one Dillip Kumbhar who worked for the gang. But Timan and others of the gang escaped. However yesterday ,based on specific information, a team of Bolangir police led by town police IIC Jogeswar Panda raided a rented house at Patia in Bhubaneswar and nabbed Timan along with three others – Dharmendra Jal, Aniruddha Dalbehera and Trinath Sagar.
Timan gang is involved in tender rigging, land grab and extortion. He was earlier arrested in 2016.
After coming out from jail he kept a low profile for several months till recently he got political support from ruling BJD leader during elections. His name cropped up during campaign when he was allegedly involved in threatening supporters of a particular party .
