‘Diwali’ a nightmare for animals and birds
Diwali or Deepavali being India’s biggest Festival of Lights has now become one of the most discomforting festivals for animals.
From 1 July and sick as well as stray animals will now receive round the clock health care service in the City Beautiful.
The working hours of the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), Chandigarh have been extended to 24 hours with effect from 1 July in order to provide 24×7 services for sick and injured stray animals.
Keeping it view increasing numbers of sick and injured stray animals in Chandigarh and taking into consideration demand of animal lover and animal welfare organisations, the deputy commissioner of Chandigarh and president SPCA, Ajit Balaji Joshi, extended the working hours of society (a government infirmary).

The director, animal husbandry and fisherie and vice president SPCA said Chandigarh is working towards being a Smart City and SPCA has taken initiative to provide 24 hours animal health care in the city.
At present, the SPCA is taking care of 205 sick or injured stray animals in their hospital and during last year 3180 animals were treated and rehabilitated. The services for lifting the sick or injured stray animals are available from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.
