Four terrorists, stone-pelter killed in Kashmir

Four terrorists of the Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) and a stone-pelter were killed in encounters with security forces in the Kashmir valley on Thursday.

Three terrorists and a stone pelter were killed at Kakapora in Pulwama district in South Kashmir, while a terrorist was eliminated when he tried to infiltrate from the Keran sector in North Kashmir.

According to the police, acting on a specific input, Pulwama police, along with 50 RR and CRPF, launched a cordon and search operation in Bank Mohalla Kakapora.

During the search, terrorists hiding in the area fired at the search party, resulting in injury to one army official whose condition is stated to be stable. The fire was retaliated, ensuing an encounter.

Terrorists neutralised have been identified as Majid Hameed Mir, Shakir Ahmad Jugjoo and Irshad Ahmad Dar.
Three AK-rifles and a pistol was recovered from the encounter site.

Police said that Majid Hamid Mir was involved in killings of two sarpanches and was also involved in grenade attacks at the police post at Kakapora and bank robbery at Wahibugh.

Majid along with Shakir Gugjoo were involved in the killing of advocate Abdul Gani and killing of a civilian Aijaz Ahmad. They were also involved in the bank robbery at Nehama.

After the burial of militants, a violent mob attacked Police Post Kakapora.

Police said that in a bid to chase away the rioting mob the security forces had no option but to open fire at the stone-pelting mob in which one person identified as Tawseef Ahmad was seriously injured and succumbed to his injuries.

The police said that he was a chronic stone-pelter and was involved in 10 such cases right from 2010 and has been earlier booked twice under the Public Safety Act.
