He said a PCR team was sent to the spot where one Nitin, a close aide of the deceased Mohit, was seen trying to break open a door. After the arrival of police it was forcibly opened.”

“Mohit was found hanging from a fan. In the same room his wife was seen lying unconscious. Biswal told The Statesman that Mohit and Arpita had married two years ago.

As the couple had been married for less than seven years, sub-district magistrate and tehsildar were informed to conduct proceedings under Section176 of CrPc.

Nitin reportedly told police that Mohit was an introvert and the couple had no children.

An investigating officer told The Statesman that Arpita Bagga had texted her mother in the morning about plan to commit suicide. “Arpita’s mother promptly informed Mohit’s father, following which he brought the matter to the notice of the police. The father also contacted Nitin on the issue.”

However, according to the official, Arpita did not mention the reason for committing suicide though a family member stated that the couple was going through a financial crisis. Mohit’s neighbour told The Statesman that for last few months Mohit was unemployed and he had even requested her husband to refer him for a job in some firm. She, however, maintained that Arpita never talked about her financial crisis. She usually stayed at home.
