Financial aid for Kanwar committees to be increased: Delhi CM


Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday visited Kanwar camps at Punjabi Bagh (Ashok Park), Tagore Garden, and Subroto Park to review the arrangements made for the Lord Shiva devotees (Kanwariyas).

Announcing that the financial help for Kanwar service committees will be increased, she expressed the joy over the grand welcome being extended to the Kanwar pilgrims in Delhi, adding that the government is fully committed to ensure their comfort and safety.

The CM also announced that the Delhi government would distribute “Ganga Jal” filled containers (dolchis) and jute bags to around five lakh Kanwariyas to promote environmental protection. She said the Kanwar Yatra is not just a religious journey, but a festival, and according a grand welcome to Kanwariyas passing through, or arriving in Delhi, is a way to respect their devotion.

She interacted with Kanwar camp committee members and the Kanwariyas to learn about their needs, and offered prayers at the camps and took blessings from the priests.

After inspecting the arrangements, she said distribution of Ganga Jal containers and jute bags will begin from Monday and stressed that this step will encourage environmental responsibility and help keep Delhi clean and green.

She added that the government had received suggestions to increase the funds given to Kanwar committees.

Gupta expressed the confidence that all arrangements made by the government would benefit the devotees and help them reach their destinations safely.

The CM mentioned that this year, during the holy month of Sawan, Delhi has witnessed a festive atmosphere like never before, adding that the ministers, MLAs, and government officials had made thorough preparations in advance to ensure the camps run smoothly.

She noted that ministers and legislators are regularly visiting the camps to interact with committee members and ensure that everything is functioning well.
