Evidence-based research, innovation, global collaboration will strengthen Ayurveda’s role in patient-centric healthcare: Sandhu

Paying tributes to Acharya Sushruta, widely revered as the ‘father of surgery’, Delhi LG Taranjit Sandhu paid highlighted his pioneering contributions to surgery and India’s enduring medical heritage. He emphasized the importance of scientific inquiry, evidence-based research, innovation, and global collaboration to strengthen Ayurveda’s role in advancing patient-centric healthcare and enhancing its global recognition.

Taking part in the “Saushrutam 2026,” the international seminar on Shalya Tantra and Sushruta Jayanti, along with President Droupadi Murmu, at the All India Institute of Ayurveda here on Wednesday, Sandhu said that the occasion celebrated the timeless legacy of Acharya Sushruta, whose contributions exemplify country’s enduring tradition of scientific inquiry, rigorous medical education, surgical excellence and ethical healthcare.

He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi observing that Ayurveda in India has never been confined to one era or one region but in every age, this ancient medical system showed the way to understand life, create balance, and harmonize with nature. “Reaffirmed that advancing research, innovation and evidence-based practice is essential to further strengthening Ayurveda’s global credibility and expanding its contribution to holistic, patient-centric healthcare,” Sandhu wrote on the social media platform X.

He emphasized that as India moves towards Viksit Bharat 2047, its traditional knowledge systems, complemented by modern scientific validation, will continue to enrich global healthcare and human well-being.

Speaking on the occasion, the Director of the All India Institute of Ayurveda Professor (Vaidya) P.K. Prajapati shared his vision for taking Ayurveda to the global level.

With the ideal of ‘May all be happy, may all be free from illness,’ AIIA is realizing the resolve of ‘Heal in India,’ ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ through education, research, and excellent patient service, he added.
