Ethnic Culture Centre in Sikkim on the cards

Chief Minister Pawan Chamling on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for an ‘Ethnic Culture Centre’ at Bariakhop in West Sikkim. Mr Chamling said the Centre will be an important avenue for the public of Bariakhop and its surrounding areas and that the project should be completed by August 2020.

“The Centre will open doors for the Sikkimese population to experience world-class market at the tip of their fingers via the Internet and modern communication, which will be made available to the people of Bariakhop and its nearby areas,” Mr Chamling said.

“The Centre will be a place for cultural amalgamation of Sikkimese society for the future generation to witness their culture,” he added. He also expressed his desire to see students of the area to be self-employed and selfsustaining.

He explained that the Centre will also cater to the intellectuals of the world who come to conduct research on the various Sikkimese culture. He also informed the people of Bariakhop of the various government initiatives that have beene taken for the overall development of the people.

Mr Chamling said that the Soreng Hospital will be upgraded and maintained in the coming months. The CM also said that the CCCT & ATTC institutes of Sikkim would be free for Sikkimese people. He further expressed his desire to make Sikkim a tourism state in the country which would lure more and more tourists in the coming years, while also improving the economic stature of the people.

“The up-gradation and beautification of all the towns will be done as per world class standards via eco-friendly methods,” he said, adding that the up-gradation and maintenance of roads have been going on in full swing.
