Taking a significant step towards making Delhi’s sanitation system more effective and strengthening the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s sanitation infrastructure, Delhi Mayor Pravesh Wahi on Saturday flagged off 135 electric sanitation vehicles at an event held in Sector 10, Rohini.
These electric vehicles will bolster the sanitation fleets of the Rohini, Narela, Civil Lines and Keshav Puram zones of the MCD.
“Electric sanitation vehicles will prove to be a milestone for waste management in MCD areas and will save valuable fuel,” Wahi stated.
Local Councillors Narendra Kumar Singh, Dharmveer Sharma, Smita Kaushik, and Poonam Saini, along with Rohini Zone Deputy Commissioner Anshul Sirohi and senior officials and staff of the MCD, were also present on the occasion.
Wahi said that out of the 135 vehicles inducted into the MCD’s sanitation fleet, 46 vehicles would operate in the Rohini zone.
He said a new electric vehicle policy has been launched by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
Wahi added that these electric sanitation vehicles have been inducted under this policy and in furtherance of the Delhi Chief Minister’s vision of a clean and green Delhi.
The Mayor remarked that development work in Delhi had come to a complete standstill over the last 10 years, stalling the city’s progress.
He said since the BJP government led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta assumed office in Delhi, the MCD has received a large number of modern machines to strengthen the sanitation system, thereby facilitating improvements in the city’s cleanliness operations.
Wahi said the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is continuously working to transform the capital into a clean, green and beautiful city.
He said all councillors are also working on this task in mission mode.
Wahi mentioned that sanitation resources are being expanded in a planned and systematic manner across all zones of the Municipal Corporation to further strengthen its sanitation system.
He remarked that the inclusion of electric vehicles in the Municipal Corporation’s sanitation fleet marks a historic step towards developing a clean and green Delhi.
The Mayor added that this initiative would prove to be a significant move in making the door-to-door waste collection system more effective and robust.
Wahi said that in accordance with the new solid waste management rules, it is mandatory to segregate waste into four categories.
