The Election Commission has announced re-poll in 38 polling stations of the Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency that witnessed widespread violence claiming eight lives last Sunday. The re-poll will be held on 13 April.

Chief electoral officer of J&K, Shantmanu, said that counting of votes will be held according to schedule on April 15.

Shantmanu told the SNS that the decision to hold re-poll at the booths that were most affected by violence has been taken by the Election Commission of India (ECI).

The ECI had yesterday postponed the polling for the Anantnag seat to May 25 against the scheduled date of April 12.

Reacting to the decision of holding re-poll, leader of opposition Omar Abdullah questioned the logic behind the decision “The situation isn’t conducive for polls in Anantnag but it’s conducive for re-poll in the areas worst affected by violence on April 9?” he asked.
