It was a momentous day in the history of Bal Bharati Public School, Ganga Ram Hospital Marg, on 9 September 2025, when the school bid an emotional farewell to its stalwart Principal, Mr. Laksh Vir Sehgal, who superannuated after 25 years of exemplary service.

The farewell ceremony, aptly titled Ek Yatra, Ek Yashogatha, was a celebration of his remarkable journey in education. Since joining the institution in 2000, Mr. Sehgal, through foresight, dedication, and devotion, elevated the school to unprecedented heights, ensuring its place among the nation’s top-ranked schools. An illustrious member of eminent organisations, such as the CBSE and NPSC, etc, he contributed significantly to policy-making and educational reforms.

The grand ceremony commenced with a red carpet welcome. The Student Council, bearing the school and House flags, greeted their revered Principal with a self-composed poem, followed by a shower of petals by the youngest learners. A traditional tilak and kalash ceremony added to the solemnity of the occasion. Mr. Sehgal was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Neelam Sehgal, and family members, whose presence made the day even more special.

The presence of distinguished dignitaries added immense grace/significance to the occasion. Among them were Mr. Nikhil Channa, President, Child Education Society; Mr. Kanishk Khullar, Vice President, CES; Ms. Meenu Goswami, Director, CES Impact Accelerator and Chairperson, School Advisory Council, CES; Founder Members of CES, Ms. Saraswati Khullar and Ms. Usha Channa; Advisors of CES; Members of the Board of Management and Managing Committee; Principals of different Bal Bharati Pschools; dignitaries from the National Progressive Schools’ Conference; as well as alumni, PTA members, and several well-wishers from the wider education community. Their gracious presence underscored the significance of this historic moment.

The NCC cadets, Cubs, and Bulbuls extended a ceremonial welcome, after which the guests were escorted to the Assembly Ground, festooned with colourful balloons. Students lined the corridors, waving a symbolic goodbye to their revered Principal. A vibrant cultural programme followed — including Bhangra, a stirring School Band performance, and a Flash Mob by students from Pre-Primary to Senior School. The segment concluded with the release of balloons and the planting of a Gulmohar and Tulsi sapling by Mr. Sehgal, symbolising continuity and auspicious beginnings.

The next segment of the event, held in the Auditorium, unfolded as a journey through memories and artistry. A photo montage as well as a video presentation showcased landmark moments of Mr. Sehgal’s 25-year tenure. The cultural programme, which was prepared and presented primarily by the staff members, included a presentation by the ex-students of the school. It was interspersed with soulful prayers, classical and contemporary dances, instrumental and vocal recitals, and dramatisations — each performance a heartfelt tribute to the leader who had nurtured both talent and tradition. A newsletter, ‘Chronicle: Fond Remembrances’, a fine medley of eloquent tributes, impressions and experiences of staff members and students with Mr Sehgal, was also released on the occasion to honour his legacy of leadership, nurtured with immaculate vision and profound wisdom.

Eminent dignitaries, colleagues, alumni, and family members shared moving reminiscences, beginning with Mr. Nikhil Channa and Ms. Meenu Goswami, their words evoking deep emotion and admiration. In his own heartfelt address, Mr. Sehgal reflected on the vital role of family support in professional success, leaving the audience deeply touched.

The evening drew to a close with a warm vote of thanks by the new Principal, Mr. Deepak Dua, who while sharing his impressions of Mr Sehgal, promised to carry forward the rich legacy. As staff members formed a human chain to bid him adieu, Mr. Sehgal, the torchbearer of values and vision, departed amidst tears, applause, and blessings — leaving behind a legacy that will inspire generations to come.
