Eight people were arrested in a late night raid on a godown in Ashiana colony of Lisari Gate area on Monday. Police also seized raw meat weighing over 50 quintals stored illegally in the godown.

The godown was used as an illegal packing facility for the meat. The meat would then be supplied to hotels and dhabas in the city.

Imraan, the owner of the godown, was among those arrested in the crackdown.

A sample of the seized meat has been sent to the lab for testing. Only after the testing will it be clear which animal the meat is of.

SHO of Lisari Gate Raghuraj Singh said that some of the arrested have been identified as Akbar, Imraan, Danish, Sajid, and Shahzad.

One of the workers, Wasim, is still at large.

Following his arrest, Imraan told the police that he was running the godown for the past few months in and more than 15 labourers had been employed.

The meat collected from different places was packed in the godown.

According to the SHO, the police got a tip that the godown was being operated without license. The raid was led by SP City Ranvijay Singh.
