Education system lagging behind in values: Jai Ram Thakur

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur

Chief Minister, Jai Ram Thakur on Thursday said that the education system is lagging behind in values and culture in the era of cut-throat competition.
Inaugurating ‘Chet Ram Gyan Bhawan’ constructed at a cost of Rs 60 lakh at Saraswati Vidya Mandir, Vikasnagar in Shimla, Thakur said the Vidya Bharti has established over 25,000 educational institutions in the country, which were providing quality education to over 33 lakh students.

He said that the present education system in India was a product of Lord Macaulay as the Britishers wanted to make the Indian education system in such a way that it produced only educated people, without any respect and place for culture and values. He said that even after 72 years of independence, we were following the same education system. He said that the ray of hope lied in institutions being run by the Vidya Bharti, which even today were following our rich culture and traditions.

Thakur said that we should work together for preserving rich culture and tradition of our country. He said that students should be encouraged to have pride in their traditions. He said that the students of Vidya Bharti were excelling in every field and congratulated the students for their excellent performance in recently declared board results.
