Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia tweeted on Wednesday that education in government schools will be absolutely free for all students.

There was no fee being charged for students till Class 8 and a nominal fee of Rs 20 per month was being charged for students of classes 9 to 12.

Sisodia directed the Secretary Education to submit a proposal to scrap the school fee. This decision makes education free for students of all classes in the national capital.

Sisodia, who headed a four-hour-long  meeting to review major plans and schemes, talked in a series of tweets about various other issues like shortage of teachers in government schools, construction of new schools and fee submission procedure of private schools.

He tweeted about the teacher shortage problem in the government schools and promised that all of the schools will have guest teachers by 14 August.

He also claimed that three more government schools will be ready by September and on the ground, construction of 4 new schools and 12,700 classrooms will start by mid-October.
