ED sleuths attach properties of R P Infosystems directors

Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers on Tuesday began the process of attaching properties of RP Infosystems directors Kaustav Ray and Shivaji Panja arrested in connection with the Rs 515.15 crore bank fraud case.

While the CBI is probing the criminal conspiracy and money laundering case against the duo, ED is in pursuit of cracking the financial angle for which it attached their properties, which the central agency believes to be dozen in numbers.

A source close to ED said that the central agency is zeroing in on properties worth Rs 70 crore belonging to RP Infosystems which includes shops, land and corporate office spaces besides the accounts of “RP Techvision” which the source claimed to have been floated by the duo in 2004 to produce movies, TV serials and other entertainment programmes.

A top ranking ED officer said on condition of anonymity: “The agency is eyeing to attach properties to the tune of Rs 70 crore belonging to RP Infosystems spread in different districts and outside the state to recover the siphoned off money.”

The sleuths of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had already quizzed the duo in connection with the alleged diversion of funds and claimed to have found links of of two Tollywood actresses in the alleged enduse the money siphoned off from a consortium of 17 banks, including the Canara Bank, by allegedly impersonating documents.

The source also claimed that the inquiry so far revealed that the loans taken by the company had been diverted to other ends and thus defeating the purpose of taking loans.

According to ED sources, RP Infosystem has properties in Bidhannagar, Kharda, Baruipur, Contai, Titagarh, Behala and Howrah.
