The Delhi Police have arrested two men for allegedly robbing a man of his belongings in the Jahangirpuri area of the northwest of the city, an official said on Thursday.

The police said the accused, who have been identified as Jamil (25) and Moinuddin (30), were involved in 15 cases of robbery, snatching, burglary, and theft, and violation of the Arms Act, they said.

“On Sunday, the victim, a 34-year-old man named Sunil, from Jahangirpuri, was returning home after buying vegetables near Ambedkar Park when one of the accused, Jamil, lured him inside the park, where three men ambushed him,” a senior officer mentioned.

The police said while one man held Sunil by the neck, Jamil pulled out a knife and threatened him with it while the third person robbed him of his mobile phone, Rs 730, and a gold earring.

The officer stated that the robbers pulled out Sunil’s earring, leaving him hurt, and afterwards pushed him down before running away. “After his complaint, a case was registered at Jahangirpuri police station, and a team initiated an investigation,” he added.

The team conducted raids at multiple locations after analysing the CCTV footage of the vicinity.

“The duo was eventually held by the team with a knife used while committing the crime. The complainant’s earring was also confiscated from their possession,” the officer said.

During sustained interrogation, the duo confessed to their involvement in the robbery, the police said, adding that further investigation is underway.
