The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started construction work on the Inderlok–Indraprastha Corridor of the Delhi Metro project on Thursday with the commencement of Diaphragm Wall construction at the Sarai Rohilla Metro Station site.
The work started in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta.
The proposed Sarai Rohilla Station is one of the key stations being developed on the Inderlok-Indraprastha Corridor of the Magenta Line.
The station is strategically located in the heart of Central Delhi and with a number of educational institutes, cinema hall, proximity to the Karol Bagh market, Desh Bandhu Gupta Road etc.
The 12.377 km-long Inderlok–Indraprastha Corridor is being developed as a fully underground extension of the Magenta Line (Line-8). The corridor will comprise 10 underground stations.
The Magenta Line (Line-8) of Delhi Metro network is set to emerge as the longest corridor of the Delhi Metro, featuring the highest number of interchange stations and underground stations, thereby significantly enhancing cross-city connectivity across the National Capital Region.
This route is very important as it provides interchange facilities for seven lines of DMRC, namely: Green line and Red Line at Inderlok Metro Station, Magenta Line at Nabi Karim Station, Yellow and Orange Line at New Delhi Station, Violet Line at Delhi Gate Station and Blue Line at Indraprastha station.
Upon completion, the corridor will strengthen connectivity to important destinations such as Sarai Rohilla Railway Station, New Delhi Railway Station, Delhi Sachivalaya, Arun Jaitley Stadium, Jhandewalan Mandir, India Gate, Kartavya Path and the Central Vista area.
The extension will also make the Magenta Line the longest corridor in the Delhi Metro network, extending approximately 89 kilometres from Botanical Garden to Inderlok, and will operate entirely as a driverless metro corridor.
Construction work on the priority corridor of Magenta line from Janakpuri West –R.K.Ashram Marg is already in progress out of which Janakpuri West to Krishna Park Extn of 1.8 kms and Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park of 9.9 kms are already operational and rest of the sections will open in phases. The construction work on Central vista corridor has already been started.
