In a move to modernise the national capital’s water and sewerage infrastructure, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has released Rs 734.95 crore to 68 Assembly constituencies under the Capital and Revenue Heads.

Notably, this marks the largest constituency-level fund release in DJB’s history, ensuring that every part of the national capital benefits from renewed investment in essential water and sanitation systems, officials said.

Of the total amount, Rs 408.95 crore has been released under the Capital Head for infrastructure projects, such as the laying of new pipelines, replacement of old sewer lines, construction of underground reservoirs (UGRs), and augmentation of water supply systems.

The remaining Rs 326 crore has been released under the Revenue Head for regular maintenance, desilting, repair works, and service-related improvements aimed at enhancing the efficiency and reliability of existing networks.

The water board has emphasised that this constituency-wise release of funds reflects its mission to promote equitable, decentralised, and need-based development.

By allocating funds directly to the constituencies, DJB aims to ensure that each area can undertake projects aligned with the immediate needs of its residents — ranging from pipeline extensions and leakage repairs to upgrading sewage treatment systems and ensuring a clean and uninterrupted water supply.

The board has also implemented strict monitoring and audit mechanisms to ensure transparency and the timely execution of the works.

The monitoring will be done through the DJB’s central Project Management Unit (PMU), and all the works will be geo-tagged and tracked in real time to guarantee efficient utilisation of funds and adherence to deadlines.

Speaking on the development, Water and PWD minister Parvesh Verma said, “The Delhi Jal Board has released Rs 735 crore directly to constituencies to ensure faster work, cleaner execution, and greater accountability.”

The minister emphasised that the government has released more funds in a decentralised manner to empower MLAs to act in accordance with the needs of the people.

Verma asserted that the government aims to ensure a clean and uninterrupted water supply and a functional sewer network in every part of Delhi so that residents do not face any inconvenience.

Verma added, “This is not a promise for the future. The funds have already been released, and work is underway. Citizens will soon see the results in their streets and homes,” Verma added.

According to the minister, the release of funds marks a milestone in Delhi’s water governance, combining decentralisation, accountability, and rapid on-ground delivery under the government’s vision of efficient and inclusive urban development.
