A differently-abled person Tanvir Ahmad War has been jailed after being slapped with the Public Safety Act (PSA) on the charges of carrying Pakistan flag and instigating violence in the Baramulla town near the LoC. War had earlier been given a tricycle by the Army as a goodwill gesture.

The pro-Pakistan separatist Yasin Malik had on Saturday alleged that the government did not spare from putting in prison even the person walking on crutches. The controversy has been triggered by the separatist leader at a time when Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has freed stone-pelters from jail.

The police on Sunday came out with a rebuttal saying that War was “lodged in Central Jail Srinagar as he was actively involved in 2016 unrest in old town in Baramulla and had been moving around on the tricycle provided to him earlier by Army as a goodwill gesture. He spearheaded violent mob violence in Baramulla, pushing young boys on the forefront of trouble, endangering their lives”.

As per records, “war would decorate his tricycle with Pakistani flags and make announcements from public address system, instigating people for violence. Once he, with the help of his gang, allegedly hijacked 4 tippers loaded with stones and got them unloaded on roads of old town Baramulla to block these roads so that police was prevented to act against the miscreants”.

Moreover this person has allegedly been involved in instigating and engineering violence in Baramulla since 2008. War is accused of involved in 16 cases of instigating and engineering mob and street violence, a police spokesman said.

How can a man who is not able to walk two steps on his feet be implicated in stone-pelting cases and sent to jail under Public Safety Act, Yasin Malik said in a statement on Saturday.
