The Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat has issued a formal communication to Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav over his public statement and related media reports alleging excessive expenditure on the renovation of the official residence of Speaker Vijender Gupta.
Sources said the matter has been referred to the Committee of Privileges by the Speaker, in view of the seriousness and potential breach of privilege caused by the unfounded and defamatory allegations. The Secretariat has officially sought written comments along with any supporting documents from Yadav, to be submitted within three days of receipt of the notice, for examination by the Chairperson, Committee of Privileges.
In the communication, it has been noted that the remarks made in the press release and subsequent media articles may amount to a potential breach of privilege of the House and its Presiding Officer, thereby undermining the dignity and decorum of the institution, the sources added.
The Delhi Legislative Assembly reiterates its commitment to upholding constitutional propriety and protecting the dignity of democratic institutions. Misleading statements made in the public domain, particularly those targeting the integrity of the Chair, will be dealt with under the established legislative procedures. The matter remains under active consideration by the Committee of Privileges.
