Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Verma on Saturday said that one of the main causes of water problems in the city is the extremely old pipeline system, which has not been upgraded for decades.

Sharing crucial plans for Delhi’s essential works, Verma said, “We are preparing a new master plan for Delhi. New pipelines will be laid, the budget has been passed, and funds have been sanctioned. Moreover, tenders have also been approved, and work has already begun at some places,” the minister said.

Emphasising the government’s resolve to deliver swift results, he said, “The government is only five months old, but we will change the face of Delhi within a year.”

The PWD Minister, who visited several areas in the New Delhi constituency on Saturday to review water supply and other infrastructure issues, said, “In many parts of Delhi, people are facing problems due to polluted water, as pipelines are 40-80 years old.”

Verma interacted with residents and took stock of the prevailing water crisis, while also highlighting the deteriorating condition of the city’s water infrastructure.

He strongly criticised the previous government for failing to take any action in this regard, stating, “It did not even lay a single new pipeline and neglected one of the most basic needs of the people — clean and safe drinking water.”

The present government has taken concrete steps to overhaul the water supply and sewerage infrastructure across the national capital, he added.

The PWD Minister assured residents that the infrastructure upgrades are not limited to announcements but are visible on the ground, with work underway in certain localities.

Verma instructed the concerned departments to ensure the timely completion of the ongoing work, maintain transparency, and make no compromise on quality.

The areas covered by the PWD Minister included D-Block in Gole Market, Rakabganj Gurdwara flats, and Type-II government accommodations in Sarojini Nagar, besides other parts of his New Delhi assembly constituency.
