Precisely with an aim on coming assembly elections, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today inaugurated the work of sewage system in Okhla constituency.
Batla House, Gafur Nagar, Okhla Village, Noor Nagar, Ghafar Manzil, Haji Colony, Okhla Vihar, Jasola, Harkesh Nagar and other adjoining areas will be benefited with the developmental works.
The laying of the sewer lines would cost around Rs 53 crore.
"With the commissioning of the sewerage system, around 1.25 lakh people would be benefited. It will reduce pollution in river Yamuna and improve sanitation, social conditions and pollution-free environment for the residents," the chief minister said.
The entire work will be completed within three years. Local MLA Asif Mohd Khan who recently joined the Congress and several Delhi Jal Board officials were present on this occasion.
Mrs Dikshit counted some of her government’s achievements and said that Delhi has the finest and the longest Metro route. "The Food Security Programme has brought happiness in the poor families as they are going to get a Right to Food after Right to Education and Right to Information," she said.
