Two minor sisters, aged 10 and 7, allegedly trafficked from Jharkhand and illegally confined in a house in Pitampura in the Capital, have been rescued in a joint operation by Delhi Police and Delhi Commission for Women on Wednesday.

Aslam Khan, DCP North West Delhi, said a 45-year-old businessman and his parents have been arrested. She identified them as Hitesh Sancheti, 29 and his parents Dhanraj Sancheti, 61 and Chanchal Devi. A case under Section 374 of the Indian Penal Code and under the Justice Juvenile Act has been registered against the three.

According to DCW chief Swati Maliwal, both the victims were traumatised when they were rescued and had been kept in a miserable condition. “They were brought here by an unidentified woman from Jharkhand. The victims said as their parents were very poor they sold them. The elder one was brought here 7 months ago while the younger was brought here three months ago,” said Maliwal.

She said both the victims were tortured and denied basic necessities. “Their condition displays the atrocities they suffered during this time. Both are not fit, their clothes were filthy and were stinking. They also confessed that they were not allowed to talk to their parents and rarely when they were in the presence of husband-wife duo. The accused threatened them with dire consequences if they revealed anything to their parents,” said the DCW chairperson.

On Wednesday, a call was received on DCW helpline number about two minor girls being confined in a house. “Immediately a message was conveyed to the local police station and in a joint effort, a raid was conducted in the house. When we reached Hitesh was reluctant to let us in but we forcibly entered and looked into all the rooms. In a small dark room both the girls were found in a miserable condition and they were looking traumatised. They were immediately taken away by DCW personnel and sent to a shelter home,” added Maliwal.

The woman who brought the girls here is yet to be identified and police are probing her whereabouts, said a senior officer.
