To create awareness among school children about hand-washing with soaps, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Thursday celebrated ‘Hand Wash Day’.
A quiz was organised on the occasion wherein emphasis was laid on washing hands with soaps.
Subhash Arya, the Mayor of South Delhi said, "We have to create awareness among all the children on hygienic conditions around them for which teachers and parents should also join this movement."
He stressed on the need of creating clean environment in schools. Arya said that Society for All Round Development (SARD) is creating awareness among children and appreciate the effort of the NGO.
In its quiz programme, the civic body selected 16 children from 589 schools on various rounds of competition in the event. The questions in this quiz are based on sanitation, hygiene and health.
In the competition south zone school get the first, West Zone get second, Central Zone get third and Najafgarh get the fourth position. Education Committee Chairman, Yashpal Arya said on the occasion, "Children of municipal schools are from very lower back ground and they are working for such a cause is an appreciable step."
October 15 is celebrated as Globle Handwashing Day, which is a campaign to motivate and mobilise people around the world to improve the habits of handwashing with soaps.
