New Delhi, 5 August
Rainfall and overcast conditions today brought respite from sultry weather in the national capital although the wet spell did not lead to any drastic drop in the mercury.
Although the city woke up to a warm and muggy morning, as the day progressed, rain hit several parts of the city, bringing with it the old problem of traffic snarls.
According to the MeT department, there was no rainfall till 8.30 A.M.
“(But) between 8.30 A.M. and 5.30 P.M., a total of 8.1mm rainfall was measured in the city,” a MeT official said.
Although the showers brought relief, maximum and minimum temperatures remained a degree above normal in the city while the humidity level oscillated between 67 and 91 per cent.
The maximum was recorded at 34.3 degrees Celsius while the minimum settled at 27.7 degrees, both a notch above normal for this time of the year.
According to the weather office, rainfall was recorded mostly in south, east and west Delhi with Palam receiving 0.7mm showers followed Ayanagar (20.9mm), Lodhi Road (6.2mm), Najafgarh (9mm) and Akshardham (15mm). North Delhi received relatively lower rainfall.
Medium to heavy downpour drenched several parts of the city, leading to traffic snarls in several areas.
The forecast is for generally cloudy skies tomorrow, with the possibility of rainfall and thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be at 32 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively.
