New Delhi, 13 November
The Delhi High Court today disposed of a Delhi police plea as infructuous which had been filed for cancellation of bail granted to Aruna Chadha, accused in formed airhostess Geetika Sharma suicide case. Former Haryana minister Gopal Kanda is also facing trial in this case.
The plea was disposed of by the bench of Justice J R Midha. The interim bail was granted to Aruna police by a trial court and it was to expire on 15 November. The bail was granted for the limited purpose of enabling her to take care of her nine-year-old daughter.
"Since the substantial period of interim bail is already over and as the interim bail is granted till 15 November and regular bail (plea) has already been heard by sessions court…., no useful purpose would be served in proceeding with this matter. The petition is therefore, disposed of as infructuous," said the court.
However, the court clarified that the observations made by it were only for the limited purpose of disposing of the application (for cancellation of interim bail) and shall not be construed as any opinion on the merit of the case. "The trial court shall decide her regular bail on its own merits," said the court.
