Raising the issue of non-payment of pension to senior citizens for the last one year, the leader of opposition in Delhi Assembly, Mr Vijay Kumar Malhotra, flayed the Delhi government for not releasing the pension.
"In the last one year over 50,000 senior citizens have applied for the old age pension after completing the required procedures and their forms were duly attested by the MLAs. Even social welfare department had also sanctioned pension for around 8,000 people but the chief minister not only withheld the pension orders but also ordered action against the officials for granting pension without her permission," said Mr Malhotra. He demanded that the government should immediately release the pension of those 50,000 senior citizens from the date they submitted their forms to the social welfare department. Dr Malhotra added that it is ironical that on the one hand the CM is asking the people to fill the forms under ‘Annashree’ scheme and on the other hand she is withholding the pension of over 50,000 people. The social welfare department is now refusing to accept pension forms duly attested and recommended by the MLAs and is showing no interest in helping those poor old people.
