NEW DELHI, 12 OCT: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has got a new director. Dr MC Misra, who beat four other contenders to the post, has taken over formal charge. He succeeds Dr R C Deka, who retired on 30 September.
Dr Misra, who is also the head of the surgery department of the hospital, is a senior faculty member with around three decades of experience.
His name was forwarded by the institute body of AIIMS, headed by Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to the Prime Minister’s Office for the final nod.
The other four shortlisted candidates were head of cardiothoracic surgery Dr Balram Airan, head of paediatrics Dr V K Paul, head of gastroenterology Dr S K Acharya and head of pharmacology and AIIMS spokesperson Dr Y K Gupta.
