Commemorating the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi this year, Sarvodaya International Trust (New Delhi Chapter) and India International Centre (IIC) organised ‘The Music of the Charkha’ on Friday.

The event was presided over by Rina Ray, Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Jyoti Bose, Managing Trustee, Sarvodaya International Trust (New Delhi Chapter) welcomed the august gathering, which included trustees and other prominent personalities from different fields of life.

Asserting faith in the ideals of Gandhi, Bose suggested that the need of the hour is to emulate “Gandhi’s philosophy of education” which rests on “an all-round drawing out of the best in child and man – mind and spirit” and bridging the gap between “urban and rural.” Invoking youth of today to be guided by the spirit of humility, compassion, selfless service to mankind and purity in thoughts as well as actions, the students of Springdales School, Dhaula Kuan affirmed their love and faith in the ideals of Mahatma through an Invocation Dance presentation on the famous Hindi Bhajan “Vaishnava Jan To Tene Kahiye Je.”
