MCD by-polls: Voting underway in 12 wards


Voting is underway for the by- polls in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) 12 wards.

People started reaching the polling stations early in the morning hours, as the voting started at 7.30 am, and is going to take place till 5.30 pm in the evening.

The wards include Greater Kailash, Vinod Nagar, Shalimar Bagh B, Ashok Vihar, Naraina, Sangam Vihar A, Mundka, Dwarka B, Dichaon Kalan, Chandani Chowk, Dakshin Puri, and Chandani Mahal.

There are 26 women candidates contesting these by elections, out of the total 51 candidates.

Voters from all age groups could be seen coming forward to cast their vote, with a hope for developmemt and better civic amenities.

Interestingly, most of the 12 seats got vacant after the councillors concerned contested assembly elections in February and were elected, CM Rekha Gupta being one, who was earlier the councilor from Shalimar Bagh B.

Dwarka B ward, remained vacant after the previous councilor Kamaljeet Sehrawat was elected to the Parliament in the 2024 general election.

The results for these by polls will be declared on December 3.

The contest is going to be interesting, as it will be a first major face off for the parties after the assembly polls.

The administration and police have put in place elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth voting, without any inconvenience to the voters.

Proper arrangements, keeping in view the elderly are in place at the polling booths, with people available to assist them during the process.
