Man arrested in Delhi for harassing women

A man accused of harassing women by sending obscene messages during odd hours has been arrested by the Delhi Police.

According to police, the accused used to pressurise women through different means to engage in obscene acts over the phone in case they replied to the messages sent by him, the police informed on Tuesday.

The man has been identified as 28-year-old Rohit Kumar, a resident of Delhi’s Pandav Nagar, and was arrested on November 23, as a result of efforts by a dedicated team of the Cyber Police Station.

The process of tracing him involved analyses of the call details of alleged phone number, and technical surveillance as the person also operated from outside India.

Notably, the police team had found that the alleged person committed the crime while was in the country, but, after that he went to Croatia.

It was after continuous technical surveillance the accused was traced to Pandav Nagar this time and a raid was conducted, to nab him.

The phone used in the commission of crime and his passport has been seized, the police added.

Meanwhile, the police got to know about the crime when a girl based in Delhi’s Karkardooma filed a complaint last year alleging that she received obscene message on her Whats App in odd hours and the caller pressurized her to share private images and then further stalked and sexually harassed her.

Accordingly a case was registered based on the woman’s complaint and the investigation was initiated in the case.

The police further said the investigation is still underway about other complaints and involvements of the accused.
