LG acts as ‘aristocratic overlord’, alleges AAP

In a fresh jibe at LG Najeeb Jung, the AAP on Wednesday said that the LG speaks the language of an "aristocratic overlord" and that he wants to dissolve the elected government at the behest of Centre.

"The AAP strongly believes that the anti-democracy and anti-people statements that he has been making over the past few days on various platforms are actually the opinions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself," party Delhi convener, Dilip Pandey told reporters.

Claiming that the PM is determined to finish off the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi, he alleged that Modi is using the L-G as his mouthpiece to express the desire of his own.

Terming the LG as "Delhi’s newly-declared overlord", he urged Jung to "reveal his opinion on matters of public importance with the same boldness".

Referring to a notification dated 21 May, 2015, Pandey said Jung had termed as "unconstitutional" the chief minister’s order asking officers to send files directly to ministers. The notification had also said that the LG was the sole authority in matters of ordering transfer and posting of bureaucrats.

"You (Jung) are saying the Central government did not do anything to initiate any confrontation and it was the Arvind Kejriwal government which went to the court, but you are completely silent on the notification of 21 May, 2015 which took away many powers of the Delhi government. Why was this notification issued?" asked Pandey.

The AAP leader asked as to why Jung rejected the Delhi government’s plan to provide permanent jobs to 17,000 guest teachers and the proposal for starting premium bus service in Delhi.

"Is it not a fact that the notification for allowing bus lane service in Delhi to ease traffic congestion is pending with you since a long time?" he asked.

Attacking Jung over the functioning of Delhi Police, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and three civic bodies, the AAP leader said all these agencies that report to him are not known to have a good administrative track record.

"Being the head of DDA, you have failed to direct it to clear its Rs 1,200 crore property tax dues towards MCDs despite the fact that employees of municipal corporations are struggling to get their salaries," he claimed.
