New Delhi, 8 Augus: The condition of Roshni, the student of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), who was attacked by her classmate on 3 July, remains stable.
Denying reports that she is suffering from amnesia, the Medical Superintendent of Safdarjung Hospital, Dr B D Athani, said: "It is too early to deduce whether she is suffering from amnesia or not. She is drowsy and her condition is stable and on the path of recovery. She suffered serious head injury and suffered multiple fractures in her skull. At present she can’t even speak properly. After around one or two months we will be able to ascertain her exact health condition."
Roshni is admitted in the intensive care unit of the hospital. The 20-year-old was axed by her classmate, Akash Kumar, multiple times on 31 July. Later he drank poison and slashed his neck. He succumbed to his injuries at AIIMS trauma centre.
Both of them were third year students of Korean in JNU&’s School of Languages. While Akash was staying in Jhelum Hostel, Roshni was in Shipra Hostel.
On the fateful morning, after the class bell rang for the second lecture, Akash carrying a bag walked from the back seat towards Roshni and asked her to come out. When she refused Akash opened his bag and reportedly took out a country-made pistol and fired at her. But the pistol did not fire. Then he took out an axe and screamed at other classmates not to interfere. He hit her repeatedly on her head and near her neck.
Thereafter he took out a bottle of sulphas (poison) and swallowed it.              sns
