A chilling murder case has emerged from East Delhi after a Delhi University faculty member was found dead inside her apartment in Vasundhara Enclave, prompting a large-scale investigation by Delhi Police.

The victim has been identified as Devosmita Paul, an Assistant Professor at Shivaji College, University of Delhi.

Officers are now examining surveillance footage, visitor records and movements around the residential complex to establish what happened in the hours leading up to the killing.

Sister discovers body

According to Delhi Police, information about the incident reached New Ashok Nagar Police Station through a PCR call received on June 4 at around 2:35 pm.

The caller, identified as Devarati Paul, informed police that her sister was lying dead inside a flat at Satyam Apartment in Vasundhara Enclave.

A police team rushed to the location, where Devarati Paul stated that her sister had been living alone in the apartment for several years. She told officers that repeated attempts to contact Devosmita Paul had failed and that the residence had remained locked from outside since the morning.

Concerned by the unusual circumstances, she entered the flat and discovered the body.

Forensic teams deployed

Delhi Police have registered a case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at New Ashok Nagar Police Station. Several teams have been assigned to the investigation, with officers pursuing multiple leads to identify and apprehend those responsible.

Following the discovery, crime scene specialists and forensic personnel were called to the apartment.

Officials carried out a detailed examination of the premises, documenting the scene through photographs and video recordings. Investigators also collected forensic evidence and other material considered relevant to the case.

The body was later shifted to LBS Hospital, where it has been preserved pending post-mortem examination.

CCTV footage under scrutiny

Investigators have launched an extensive review of CCTV footage from the apartment complex and nearby areas.

Police are attempting to reconstruct the victim’s final movements and identify anyone who may have visited the flat shortly before the crime.

Officials said they are also gathering information related to delivery agents and other visitors who may have had access to the residence in recent days.

Police said the probe remains active and all angles are being examined as investigators work to establish the sequence of events behind the killing of the Delhi University Assistant Professor.
