Drunken driver rams BMW into divider in Delhi

A speeding BMW driven by a drunken man hit a road divider and damaged the iron grille in west Delhi in the early hours of Monday, police said. The driver sustained minor injuries.

Police said the accident occurred at around 3 a.m. in Rajouri Garden on Ring Road. A passerby informed police about the accident near ESI hospital.

“During investigation, a BMW car with a Chandigarh registration number was found in accident condition damaging the iron grille of the divider. The owner of the vehicle, Rishi, who was driving it, sustained minor injury,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, Vijay Kumar said.

“Prima facie it was found the BMW was speeding and the driver could not apply the brake when it hit the divider. He had consumed alcohol at the time of accident,” Kumar said.

Rishi, a resident of west Punjabi Bagh, was medically examined and was charged with rash driving and negligence, the officer said.
