The Delhi Police has arrested a man for allegedly killing a 16-year-old girl and chopping her body into several pieces.

According to the police, accused Manjeet Karketa had brought the minor girl from Jharkhand to work as a domestic help in Delhi. He allegedly killed the girl after she demanded her salary from him.

After getting her employed, said the police, accused Manjeet would collect her salary from her employer and pocketed the money.

According to media reports, after the victim began to demand her money from the accused, Manjeet hatched a plan along with his associates to kill her.

They took her away from her employer’s house on the pretext of sending her back to Jharkhand but took her to another house, where they killed her. They allegedly chopped her body into several pieces and dumped them in a drain.

After the body parts were found in the drain in Mianwali Nagar area on May 4, a day after she was killed, the police scanned the footage from CCTV cameras installed in the locality.

Karketa’s arrest

The police received a tip-off that one of the tenants, a resident of Jharkhand, had been missing since the girl’s killing. A raid was conducted at his village but he was not found there.

Later, the police learnt that the man was expected to visit his rented accommodation in Delhi on 17 May. A trap was laid and he was arrested.

According to the police, Manjeet confessed that he killed the girl with help of two other people, including a woman. During interrogation, said the police, he revealed that the three of them used to lure young and poor girls from Jharkhand promising them attractive employment in Delhi.

They had brought the girl to Delhi around three years ago and got her employed as a domestic help. The accused used to collect her salary and did not pay her, said the police.
