Delhi: Girl apprehends harasser, drags him to police station

A Delhi woman who was being followed and harassed by two men in the busy Gaffar Market in the national capital, took the matters in her on hand by apprehending one of her harasser and dragging him to a nearest police station.

The incident reportedly occurred on 25 February. The men continuing with their lewd remarks even after the girls hired a rickshaw to avoid them.

However, the woman then reportedly got down from the rickshaw and starting slapping one of the men. As a crowd gathered, the woman dragged him to the nearby police station and filed a complaint.

The police have arrested both men who have been identified as Manish and Abhishek, from Charkhi Dadri in Haryana, around 100 km from Delhi and a case has been registered over the incident.

On 11 February, an unidentified middle-aged man masturbated inside a Delhi bus, while sitting next to a 23-year-old woman and allegedly tried to molest her.

The woman, a Delhi University student, reported the matter to the police with a video of the incident after which an FIR was registered at Vasant Vihar police station.

Two months ago, a CCTV footage showed two women, including a journalist, being molested inside the ITO Metro station in New Delhi. As per police reports, the drunk man first passed lewd comments at her and then touched her inappropriately.

As per NDTV new report, according to a Delhi Police data of 2017, more than five rape cases were reported on an average every day in the national capital. However, the number of reported rape cases reduced from 2,064 in 2016 to 2,049 in 2017. As many as 3,273 molestation cases were reported last year, according to the statistics shared by Delhi Police. The cases of eve-teasing though declined from 894 in 2016 to 621 last year.
