Two days after a group of Kashmiri people was thrashed by a mob in Sunlight Colony near New Delhi’s Maharani Bagh, the Delhi police on Saturday registered an FIR.

While the victims alleged that they were targeted because they were Kashmiris, the police said that the fight was over feeding the stray dogs. According to a report in the Indian Express, police have arrested four persons in connection with the case.

The victims, including four women, were surrounded and beaten up by a mob of 30-40 people late Thursday night.

“My sisters were abused and beaten up. I have a broken left hand and one of my guests who had come to visit us was also attacked. It was a planned attack and the accused were carrying hockey sticks,” said one of the victims.

He said that they were roughed up and the accused were shouting slogans, “Kashmiri terrorists should be sent back”.

He said that they had been attacked a couple of times earlier also and had been living in fear in the locality. Police have registered a case and are probing the matter, an officer said.

On the other hand, the residents, who were allegedly involved in the attack, have alleged that the siblings would feed dogs in the vicinity, which attracted more canines and caused a menace.

Talking about the hockey sticks in their hands, the residents claimed that they had the sticks because of dogs menace.

Police have confirmed that they received complaint from both parties, who had accused each other of assault following which cross cases have been registered against them.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reacted to the incident and re-tweeted a tweet which read, “Apparently the girl was made a target because she was feeding stray dogs. What sick mindset is this?”

According the media reports, based on victim’s complaint, police have filed a case under IPC sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354 A (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment), 341 (punishment for wrongful confinement), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).
