Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Ajay Maken met Lt. Governor Anil Baijal on Wednesday to demand action against AAP MLAs who were involved in manhandling of Delhi chief secretary Anshu Prakash at CM’s residence last Monday.

Maken said that AAP MLAs should be punished, not spared. He also demanded Chief Minister Kejriwal’s apology over the incident. He urged the L-G to ensure security for administrative officers, so that they felt safe and could work without fear.

Maken was accompanied by former CM Sheila Dikshit, former Assembly Speakers Subhash Chopra and Yoganand Shastri, former minister Haroon Yusuf and some other senior leaders.

Maken remarked that after the incident involving the chief secretary the situation in Delhi had become dangerous. He elaborated that if there was administrative paralysis and senior officers felt that they had lost their self respect, it was a very dangerous situation.

Maken continued that the L-G had been urged to ensure security for officers so that they could work with dignity. He sought that no political pressure should be put on officers, who were expected to work independently and impartially.

Taling on the issue, Sheila Dikshit stressed on the importance of the role of bureaucrats in organisations and government. She said that elected representatives might be policy-makers but administrative officers implemented policies. She said that the administrative officers should be respected.

Dikshit said that the Kejriwal government should extend apology to administrative officers by ensuring that ugly incidents never happened again. She claimed that she never called chief secretary or other officials at midnight for a meeting. She felt that meetings during wee hours could be held only in emergency situations like riots.

Dikshit also took a dig at the Chief Minister by claiming that there was crises in Delhi but he went to Karnataka to establish a political base for his party there. That showed how irresponsible he was, she alleged.
