New Delhi, 24 July
Following the order of Delhi Development Authority to prepare Local Area Plan (LAP) of each municipal ward under Master Plan-2021, the town planning department of the three municipal corporations will soon send a final report of 37 wards.
“In Delhi a huge area under each municipal ward is unplanned and unauthorised and its a tough task to provide civic amenities after unplanned development. These LAPs will ensure space for civic amenities in advance and hence planned development in the city,” said a senior officer of town planning department in South Delhi Municipal Corporation which is the nodal office for this project for the three municipal corporations.
The erstwhile MCD had notified 33 wards on a pilot project basis. The corporation has also engaged five institutes including School of Planning and Architecture, Guru Govind Singh Indraprastha University, Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Association of Municipalities and Development Authority (AMDA) and Jamia Millia Islamia.
‘The institutes have submitted the draft plan of 33 wards in the city. These plans have been considered by the monitoring committee and after incorporation of modifications/ corrections they will be referred to DDA for final approval,’ added the officer.
The status of work will be presented before standing committee of East Delhi Municipal Corporation on Thursday.
Chairman Standing Committee in East DMC, Mr Sanjay Surjan, said that the LAP will ensure better planning to provide civic amenities in these wards.
“We have sanctioned formation of LAP for all the 66 wards in our area, the work on rest of the plan will be started after getting approval of DDA for these LAPs,” Said Mr Surjan.
The wards whose draft LAP has been prepared are- Khichirpur, Kondali, Gharoli, Vivek Vihar, Dilshad Colony, and Dilshad Garden.
