New Delhi, 8 August:A businessman was shot at allegedly by two bike-borne assailants in Shahdara area of east Delhi late last night.
The victim was identified as Rakesh Pathak, 44, a resident of Shahdara.
"Pathak was on his way home at around 9 pm, when the assailants struck. Pathak has a business of surgical equipment at Bhagirath palace in Chandni Chowk area of Central Delhi. He commutes to his shop through metro train," said the police.
The victim after wrapping up his day&’s work boarded a metro from Chandni Chowk for Shahdara. When he was walking down to his home, suddenly two-bike borne assailants came and demanded his bag at gunpoint. He resisted their snatching attempt. While the pillion rider failed to snatch the bag, the driver took out a pistol and shot at him twice. The victim ducked to save himself but in the meantime a bullet hit his leg.    
Nevertheless, he did not let his bag go away from his hand.  On this, the driver fired on his back and fled from the spot after noticing that the people were running towards them. A passerby informed police and the victim was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. Operation was performed to take out bullets from the body.
“He is recuperating and is out of danger,” said a police officer. A case of robbery and attempt to murder has been registered.                                                             sns
