NEW DELHI, 13 July: The Delhi BJP today organised a protest march from the party headquarters at Ashoka Road to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi’s resident over the issue of price rise of essential commodities.
The BJP workers including the BJP Mahila Morcha staged strong demonstration expressing anguish over the collapse of public distribution system (PDS) and non issuance of ration cards. The protesters were stopped by police at Akbar Road. According to the Delhi police they have used only one water cannon to disperse the crowd. A senior official said that one woman constable was injured in the scuffle between the police and protesters. BJP termed the announcement of implementation of food security scheme is misleading saying it would meet the same fate as other schemes like Rajiv Ratna Awas yojna, Annashri yojna and Antyodaya yojna. “Justice Wadhwa Committee has found that PDS in Delhi was one of the most corrupt and inefficient systems” said Mr Goel, adding further he pointed out that Annashri and Antyodaya Yojna started by the Delhi government have already failed. Now the government wants to hoodwink the people by talking about food security scheme.
Protesting the price rise, Mahila Morcha state president Sudha Sharma said: “The government has no control over price rise of essential commodities. The price rise has adversely affected the household. Now even vegetables are out of the reach of common man.”
