An assistant professor of Bhim Rao Ambedkar College is observing hunger strike demanding removal of Dr R B Solanki who has recently been appointed as the officiating principal of College.
Dr Solanki was given charge after the death of a college lab assistant Pavitra Bharadwaj who had alleged sexual and mental harassment by the college principal Dr G K Arora. Following her death Arora was suspended and a judicial inquiry into the matter has been initiated.
Dr D K Pandey, associate professor of Commerce, has been sitting on hunger strike outside the university vice chancellor&’s office since Tuesday demanding removal of Dr Solanki. “We feel that a partial and independent investigation into the death of Ms Bharadwaj is possible when an OSD is appointed to head the college. It is a sensitive issue and the document must be handled carefully. We fear that Solanki&’s appointment will influence the investigation,” he said.
On the other hand Dr Solanki said Dr Pandey is close to the suspended principal, G K Arora and is trying to defend him. “The governing body of the college and the university officials have appointed me. Some people, including Dr Panday, who are close to the Dr Arora, are trying to shield him. They want to create hurdle in the investigation process, which can’t happen” he said.
Ms Bhardwaj, a former lab assistant at Bhim Rao Ambedkar College, had set herself ablaze outside the Delhi Secretariat on September 30 and succumbed to her injuries a week later.
