New Delhi, 24 July
Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL) and Birmingham Airport have announced the launch of Air India&’s direct flights between IGI Airport and Birmingham from 1 August.
Air India will operate flights every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday on this sector using the recently inducted Boeing 787-800 Dreamliner aircraft. AI-113 will depart Delhi for Birmingham at 1.30 p m (IST) and AI-114 will land in Birmingham at 6 p m (local time).    The DIAL CEO, Mr I Prabhakara Rao, said, “At India&’s busiest airport we understand the ever growing demand of passengers. A significant number of people in Birmingham and the wider Midlands wanting to travel to India have had to transit through London due to the lack of direct services. We hope this new flight will boost traffic between the two countries and be beneficial to Air India as well as the airports."  Birmingham will be the 60th international destination out of IGI Airport.
Jo Lloyd, Birmingham Airport&’s marketing director, said, “We are delighted to welcome Air India into Birmingham and to be in Delhi this week to promote the new partnership with Delhi Airport, Air India and companies doing business between the two cities. We look forward to welcome the new service next week and welcoming new visitors into the UK&’s second city.
According to FDI Markets, the West Midlands receives more foreign direct investment from India than any other region outside London. Globally, the UK is the third largest recipient of Indian investment, behind only the UAE and the USA.
