AAP protests violation of water sharing arrangement

AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday staged protest outside Haryana Bhawan against alleged violation of water-sharing arrangement between Delhi and the Haryana governments.

Many AAP MLAs along with party supporters carrying placards against the Haryana government blamed Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar for not releasing enough water for Delhi, thereby causing sufferings to the people in the Capital. AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha claimed that Haryana government was not complying with the water sharing agreement between Delhi and Haryana.

“The Haryana state is also in violation of the Supreme Court order on this issue,” Jha said, adding that Haryana BJP government’s act was politically motivated and exposed their step-motherly treatment towards people of Delhi.

Terming the situation “unfortunate”, AAP MLA Madan Lal charged the BJP for taking revenge on the people of Delhi as they did not vote for the saffron party in 2015 Assembly elections.

Meanwhile, Delhi Jal Board on Friday knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court to resolve the ongoing dispute between Delhi and Haryana government.

The petition filed in the apex court sought instructions to Haryana to supply 450 cusecs of potable water daily to the Wazirabad reservoir, in accordance with a 1996 Supreme Court order.
