New Delhi, 24 July
The crime branch of Delhi Police has arrested two absconding carjackers who managed to give them the slip during a shootout that took place on the outskirts of the Capital on 22 July. One car jacker was gunned down by the police in retaliatory firing that day.
According to the additional commissioner of police (crime), Mr Ravindra Yadav, the accused were identified as Aman and Sumit Dahiya. They landed in the police net yesterday  from hotel Primero in Gurgaon as they were planning to escape to Rajasthan. Their associate who died in the shootout on 22 July was  identified as Amit Dahiya.
At around 2.15 p m that day, a Ford Endeavour car was robbed at gun point near Sachdeva School in Rohini. Following a PCR call, a trap was laid across the Outer district to trace the vehicle and the criminals.
While vehicles were being checked at Ghogha Crossing picket in Narela, constables Baljit Singh Chahal and AS Bohara spotted a white Endeavour without number plates. Suspecting the number plate might have been removed by the culprits, they started chasing it after taking a lift from a passerby’s vehicle.  The stolen Endeavour car then crashed into a wall after which both the cops surrounded it, challenging the criminals to come out and surrender. However, the criminals opened fire which resulting in Baljit Chahal sustaining a bullet injury in his right thigh. In self-defence, Baljit also opened fire and a bullet hit one of the criminals, Amit, who later succumbed during treatment.
