A 25-year-old man from Haryana was arrested for allegedly killing his girlfriend at her rented accommodation in South Delhi, allegedly driven by suspicion of her infidelity, police said on Thursday.
The accused, Himanshu, a resident of Hansi, Haryana, with a criminal record, was arrested on Wednesday night, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Ankit Chauhan said.
He was in a relationship with the deceased, Sakshi, a native of Hauz Khas, who worked at a private company in Okhla and had been residing in the Kotla Mubarakpur area for the past year, the officer said, adding that the couple had met in Rajasthan before beginning their relationship.
Initial investigations revealed that Himanshu visited Sakshi’s residence on Tuesday evening, where the two got into an argument after he accused her of being involved with another man.
“During the argument, Himanshu attacked her multiple times with a kitchen knife and then fled the scene, locking the room from the outside,” the DCP said.
The incident came to light around 9:19 pm when a PCR call reported a quarrel in the building, along with bloodstains on the staircase.
The caller informed police that his parents, who live in the building, heard noises coming from the tenant’s room, officials said.
According to DCP Chauhan, a team was dispatched to the scene, and upon arrival, they found the door of a first-floor room locked from the outside. After breaking the lock, they discovered a woman lying in a pool of blood inside the room.
He continued by saying that she was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Mentioning further, he said, “Injuries were found on her face and throat, indicating she had been attacked with a sharp-edged weapon.”
While probing into this case, over 250 CCTV footage clips from nearby areas, along with technical surveillance, helped trace the accused to Haryana, where he was subsequently arrested.
A murder case has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing, police said.
